just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -It was very hard for Jamie to get it into her head that she was actually attending a school dance. Never in her life had she gone to something like this before. She wasn’t exactly the type of girl to win the school spirit award, after all. She remembered being back in middle school doing those dorky little awards. Everybody would get a piece of paper with all the names of the awards listed on them, and you would write down in each space the person who you thought deserved each award. Well, needless to say that the only award Zoe ever got was something like class skipper or those dumb awards. Most of the time she was totally fine with all of that. She’d never wanted to get best vehicle or best sense of humor or any of that crap. The only one she’d ever been mildly interested in was best hair, and she’d gotten over that one pretty quickly when she realized that she wasn’t preppy, and thus she wouldn’t win any of those awards. It was very easy for her to get over that, though, when she started to think about the only ways that she’d be able to actually win the one award she’d ever wanted, seeing as the only solution she’d been able to come up with had to do with her turning preppy, which was something she would never do. Zoe had never gotten along well with the preppy kids. Well, okay, there were a lot of people that Zoe had never gotten along well with, but the preppy kids were very close to the top of the list of people she didn’t like. Just the way they were always so…so…preppy! Yeah, it was a pretty lame description, but it was all she could come up with. They were always so peppy and happy and just ugh! Irritating!
Okay, not that it took a lot to get Zoe irritated either. She had always been a very easily irritated person, and she knew that. It was just in her nature. It was the way she had always been. It was one thing that Zoe knew, no matter what happened to her or how she changed, that one thing wouldn’t. Okay, so there were probably a couple things that would never change with Zoe, including not only how easily irritated she was, but her height, plus how easily she could be confused when it came to her feelings. That one there was a particularly big one. Take Jamie, for instance. Only now was she starting to realize that there was a good chance that she’d loved him all along, and just didn’t know it. And even now. She wasn’t totally confused anymore, but just a few minutes ago she had been. She didn’t know how she really felt about the kid. It was just a big jumble of feelings, and that was sometimes — okay, always — hard for a girl to grasp. But high school was a hard time and place to be in. There was always a lot going on in a high schooler’s life, even for ones that weren’t really involved in any activities or anything, like Zoe wasn’t. That was one thing that Zoe left for the preppy kids. Leave them the honor of being active in school and acting like they cared. Okay, so they probably did care, but that wasn’t the point. The point was that Zoe didn’t want to be active in anything Carson High had to offer. She wasn’t totally anti-school — heck, hardly at all. She knew that it was important to do your best in school so you could get good grades and then into a good college, in turn earning you a good career. She just thought that the other parts of school, like being involved and all that, was stupid.
So maybe Zoe wasn’t the smartest person around. Obviously that much could be realized by the fact that she thought she would be able to get into a good college without participating in any school activities or being active in clubs and such. Well, Zoe wasn’t as dumb as she looked. Even though she tried her hardest to stay away from anything school-related other than classes, she still knew what she had to do to be successful. So, she volunteered. She helped out local charities in her area and helped at the local nursing homes. Old people just always seemed to be nice to her, no matter how corny and slightly messed-up they sounded, because it was true. They just always seemed so peaceful, too. It was like they didn’t really care if they died the next day, because they’d had a long and fruitful life and that was enough for them. They were content. Okay, so not all old people were like that, but the ones that Zoe was “assigned” to were. She’d never thought of the idea that the nurses did it that way on purpose. It probably wouldn’t be the best thing if they put her with an old crank because she might end up flipping out and punching an old lady or something, and that would most definitely not be good. But that was enough of that, because old ladies were definitely not the top priority for Zoe’s mind right now. The thing she should be spending the most attention to was the subject of Jamie, and the fact that he was now holding her around the middle and she had her arms on his chest. This was the closest that she had ever been to Jamie without punching him or harming him in any way. And she had to admit, she was definitely liking this change. Jamie lowered his head, and the butterflies in Zoe’s stomach began to emerge from their short nap again, fluttering like crazy, and she resisted the urge to reach down and slap them. But that would most definitely be awkward. Slowly, very slowly, Zoe began to sway in time with the music, and she knew that Jamie would do the same. A small smile started to form on her face, and as time went on it became bigger. This was what those people on tv were talking about when they said love, wasn’t it? This right here. WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR IT WAS CLEAR TO ME YOU'RE THE ONE THEY ADORE, WHO THEY CAME TO SEE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Even though jamie knew that it must’ve been odd for people to see zoe at a dance, he knew that it must’ve been even weirder to see him. First off, for zoe, Jamie honestly didn’t see her anywhere. Well, other than during normal school hours (if he managed to drag his ass out of bed) and other places where teenagers went normally. But Jamie wasn’t really a normal teenager, so he didn’t really … go to places that were normal. It was weird, really, how his mother was a fantastic nurse and took care of pretty much everyone who worked her on a day to day basis and still had no idea that her son was a heroin addict. You’d think that she’d recognize some things that just weren’t right, and then put two and two together and then discover it and be all angry at him. Then again, Jamie didn’t get sick very often (or not sick enough that he needed to go to the hospital) and therefore avoided blood tests. Jamie hated needles with a strong passion and when he went in for his first tattoo he was so nervous and scared. Then he realized that it wasn’t so bad, and he just eventually went and got more done. And then there was the obviousness of needles for injections and whatever with his drugs. At the point of time when he’s shooting up, he doesn’t care about what he’s sticking in his arm, he just wants what comes after that to feel good. The first time scared him, though, but he was curious and ended up not minding it. I suppose it was just when they took things out of him that scared him.
Probably another thing that made Jamie not want to get into relationships and stuff was because it took so much out of him. Not just time or anything, it was just that a lot of time girls were always so open about everything and then expected Jamie to open, too. They’d pretty much spill out their entire life story and then expect Jamie to do the same. What was he supposed to tell them? That he was a druggie and spent most of his time sleeping and watching MTV until his brain pretty much shut down from lack of use? No. so he usually just tried to change the subject. He’d rather not have everyone know what was going on in his life for now. Well, actually, he’d rather nobody ever find out. He had to watch out with what he did to get sick, because if it got to a serious enough level then he could go to the hospital and be caught that way. Jamie looked up into the lights on the ceiling and wondered if his mother was even allowed to look at the results of his blood tests. She probably wasn’t, but should probably would anyway. She was just so stubborn and hardly played by the rules unless it was crucial. Does that sound familiar?
Oh well, Jameson, you shouldn’t be thinking about that sort of thing when you’re dancing with the most beautiful girl you’ve seen in your life. Jamie took in another deep breath and felt Zoe start moving, so he started moving in motion with her. He looked down and noticed that she was smiling, and he couldn’t help but smile back with an equally large smile. And it was yet again genuine. Nothing he was doing right now was fake. He wasn’t being controlled by some unseen force that could only be known in his head, and he was actually … well, living. Sure, that sounded really, really cheesy. But it was true. It felt like a huge load had been taken off of his shoulders and he didn’t want any weight back on. He felt so … gah. There was no word in the English dictionary that could describe how Jamie was feeling right now. Or the French one. Triumphant? A bit, yes. But it didn’t cover how glad he was feeling for showing up to this ‘stupid’ dance. He was thankful that Torben had made him show up now. After this whole thing was over, Jamie should really go over and thank him.
Jamie looked around him, and saw that people were beginning to actually look like they were at a dance and not a UFC match. That was good. He hoped that it would be the last wrestling match the two would ever go through, but he highly doubted it. Even if they were closer than they had ever been, there would without a doubt be more fights. There were no ifs, ands or buts about it. Like I said before, they were two completely different people on the inside. Whatever happened to these two teenagers when they walked out tonight, that much wouldn’t change. Just because they had spent a few hours together wouldn’t mean that they would suddenly and magically agree on everything, because that was just simply unrealistic. A part of Jamie wanted to know where Torben was, and if he was still here. He was probably still here, tending to the needs of all his little girlfriends and trying to keep Rachel from puking all over her hot pink dress. Dress. Speaking of dresses, Jamie looked down at Zoe’s. It was … wow. If Jamie could see Zoe’s eyes more clearly, he guessed that the blue of the dress would make the blue in her eyes stand out amazingly. He lowered his head again to speak to Zoe again without screaming over people talking and probably scaring her. I like your dress. well, that was very charming, Jamie. Not to mention that the entire time he was talking his voice cracked and it went squeaky sometimes. Ugh. He would definitely not enjoy his throat condition tomorrow if it already hurt this much. Oh well, he should just relax. At least he hurt his throat for a good cause, right? Well. We’ll just have to see how good of a cause this was going to turn out to be.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -Standing here with Jamie — no, dancing now! — Zoe couldn’t help but let her thoughts fade back to when she and he were young. They had never gotten along, even from such a tiny age. Like really tiny, meaning when Jamie moved to California. He’d moved when he was…five? Six? Somewhere around there, anyway. Zoe had never paid much attention to dates and all that, and especially when it was with a person she didn’t like. Well, actually, dates and times and all that had never been one of Zoe’s strong points, no matter who the subject was or how important it was. It was just something that she’d never really been able to do well. So it made completely perfect sense, to her at least, that she couldn’t remember when she had first met Jamie. When they were so young like that, she knew she hadn’t really had a crush on him. Back then it was just pure spite and hate. It had definitely taken a few years for these new feelings to develop. Sure, there were always little kids saying they had crushes on the boys or whatever when the boys would freak and run away screaming cooties. But those were never real feelings, and anyone would tell you that after they passed that phase in their life. And then there were the adults, particularly married couples, who said that they remembered being in kindergarten, and they already had crushes on each other, and, most outrageously, had known then that they were the right ones for each other. Well, that was just stupid! In Zoe’s opinion, at least. When you’re in kindergarten you’re worrying more about having friends and memorizing your ABC’s, not who you’re going to marry in twenty years.
When you’re Zoe and in kindergarten, though, you have a couple different things on your mind. Like how to make the teacher think there’s a mouse behind her desk and a snake in her desk drawer. And most importantly, how you were going to annoy Jameson Bolton during recess. Yes, even back then Zoe was a rambunctious little girl. Even back then she was worrying about her latest prank and how to get revenge on other people. Yeah, definitely not the girl you wanted on your bad side. She had definitely been working hard to get her reputation built, that much was for sure. All her hard work, starting at kindergarten, had sure paid off though, because here she was today with half of the school terrified of her. There were always a few people who weren’t though, but most of them faded out of her mind quite quickly, with only one major exception. Jamie. Yes, there he was again, coming back to mind. He really was pretty much the only exception she’d ever had when it came to her anger and building a reputation for herself. Everyone else, yes, even the guys, would finally start to fear her after a few run-ins with the feisty little girl. But Jamie continued to come back. Or more likely, they just continued to run into each other. Zoe never really went looking for Jamie, and she doubted that he went looking for her. It was just so unlikely when they were constantly voicing their hatred for each other. So Zoe would see the boy somewhere, and even though she’d just said how she would never go looking for him, when she actually saw him, that was another story. She would totally make a beeline for him, just to irritate him. Then she would try her hardest just to annoy him. If they were on the playground, she would push him off the swing (or at least try). If they were on the court, she would throw a basketball at him. And if they were in the sandbox, yep, you guessed it, she would throw sand at him.
Zoe’s actions, or at least most of them, had never changed in the slightest from her young years. Though she may not resort to throwing sand and pulling hair anymore, she still tried to irritate people she didn’t like, no matter what the consequences were. The only difference was that she preferred verbal jabs a lot more now, and she would punch and kick, ruin reputations, all that good stuff. She was so beyond the sand-throwing days, right? Okay, so if she had the chance she would probably do that again, but that wasn’t the point. She had better, easier ways to get to people now, including Jamie. Or at least, she had up until today. Actually, no, up until a few weeks ago, before the mall incident. After that she’d tried to avoid him as much as possible. She truly did not know what had come over her when she saw him at the dance. But just seeing him with that other girl…ooh, did it make her mad. And normally she was the one making people mad! That was probably part of — no, the majority — the reason why she’d done what she had. And it had turned out well for everyone, hadn’t it? Well, no, except for Josh. Zoe wondered vaguely again where he’d gone and whether he was okay. Ahh, whatever, he would be fine. It was only a punch, right? Even if it was a particularly harsh one. Worst that would happen was that he would end up in the hospital, but he would even get out of there in time, so no big deal. No lasting harm. Especially for what Zoe got as a result! Here she was, dancing with Jamie, and enjoying every minute of it. Looking up to find the huge smile on his face even made her own wider. I like your dress. Zoe smiled weakly, blushing only a tiny bit, as she looked up at him. I’m glad you do, she replied. Her answer hadn’t been implied to come out as sarcastic, but when she realized that it could be taken that way, she shook her head and hastily said, I mean, thanks, Jamie. That’s really…sweet of you. You look…well, incredibly handsome. And I mean that. And she really did. NOTES: HAHA you show her, corii. WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR IT WAS CLEAR TO ME YOU'RE THE ONE THEY ADORE, WHO THEY CAME TO SEE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
If you asked Jamie at this moment if he was being responsible about all of this, he’d probably say no. Mainly because he should’ve seen if that kid was okay, but first of all he shouldn’t have even punched him. Oh well. He also lost track of the person he originally came here with (not in a dating way, thanks) and that wasn’t a great thing. Usually the only thing that Jamie was responsible about was Spencer. Spencer, in case you didn’t already know this, was his mother’s cat. Actually, it was more or less Jamie’s cat, because he spent the most time out of his day with the thing. At first, it was a cute little orange kitten that Jamie secretly loved holding and petting, and then it started to use its claws and things just went downhill from there, and Spencer’s future was not looking bright. The only reason why the Boltons magically acquired the cat was because Jamie’s mother was on a sick leave, and her brother (Torben’s dad) decided that she needed a kitten because Torben’s cat just had five of them and there was no way that he could keep them all. So, his mother went over, picked out the typical smaller one, brought it home and named it Spencer. Jamie had no idea why she named her that, but whatever. For a week or so, his mother stayed home and played with the kitten while Jamie went out or spent his time doing other things, and when she eventually had to return to work she left the whole kitten responsibility with Jamie. At first, Jamie hated it. Then he realized that the little ball of fluff was actually pretty cute, and he would watch TV while it sat on his stomach and slept, or batted at his hand with her paw. Well, up until then, they had assumed that it was a boy, hence the masculine name. And then one night it got out (it was Jamie’s fault, he had left the apartment door open while he was waiting for someone to come over) and it came back, thankfully. Soon enough, Jamie and his mother realized that Spencer was pregnant and that it was not a boy. Because that just wouldn’t make any sense. So eventually she had kittens and they tried to convince Jim, Jamie’s father, to let them keep all of them. After all, they were just so cute. But by this time, Torben’s cat had ran away and probably died, so he took two and the other two were given to people who lived on the same floor as Jamie did. So everything worked out in the end.
Now, Jamie hated Spencer. She was just an old, lazy cat that didn’t do much of anything. That was sort of like Jamie, now. When he was a baby he was super cute, and then when he was a toddler and went to grade school we was super cute and nice (except to certain people, because some people just had to be dealt with, whether it be with sand or glue snakes) and then we got to middle-school Jamie. By then he had a precarious mindset, and a really, really bad attitude. Kind of like Spencer. Maybe they were destined to be housemates, because they were just so damn similar. Okay, so now I’m comparing people with cats. Not a great comparison. If Jamie and his cat managed to feel the same way at the same time, he couldn’t imagine what Spencer would be doing right now. Probably sleeping, because that’s what excited cats do. Hopefully she was not sleeping in Jamie’s bed, because Jamie was allergic to cats and having hair all over his pillow would not improve his sleeping conditions. Jamie was on top of the world, and Spencer was probably on top of the couch.
Oh geeze. Now Jamie was worried that he had cat hair all over his clothes. Well, as of right now it didn’t really look like that, but it was difficult to see in this low lighting. All he could pretty much see were the different colors of dresses and the occasional sparkle from masks and glitter and all that jazz. Oh, and some of the guys were wearing white tuxedos. So that showed up in his vision as well. But right now, he didn’t really care about anyone else. Well, except Torben. But that was a natural thing, worrying about your relatives. Jamie was just trying to focus his mind on Zoe, and so far it was working marvelously. He was regretting all those times he chased her with snakes in grade school, or sticking gum on pants, or pulling her hair or doing anything mean to her. Well, not all of them. And they were good for a few laughs. And she got him a few times, too. So they were about equal. When Zoe spoke, he raised an eyebrow, because her tone sounded sarcastic. Oh well, that was just Zoe. Some things were just not going to change, and obviously her attitude was one of them. But that was fine with Jamie, because if she all of a sudden just turned on a dime and started being extremely nice, that would be … weird. And Jamie wouldn’t know what to do. Who would he fight with constantly? Well, that void could be filled quickly I suppose. And then she started talking again, and Jamie smiled even more. That was pretty much the only time he got called handsome from someone who wasn’t his mother or his aunt or his grandma. Well, his grandma didn’t really call him handsome. She was always suggesting that he cut his hair (never going to happen) and ‘lose those things in your ears’. Well, if he were to do that, his ears would be … well … quite misshapen. Instead of saying thanks, Jamie just nodded and smiled. He definitely was not dressed up to par, but that was okay. Because Jamie was (hopefully) never going to be dressed up in a tux for the rest of his life.
Jamie was about to do something when he stopped himself. No, that would be incredibly ridiculous. Obviously if you go do that again she’s going to run away. Maybe it was better to just … ask her first. Get her consent. Oh boy. so … zoe … okay, he shouldn’t be getting nervous like this. This was just stupid. Grow some balls, Jamie. Just say it. Get it over with. If I were to … say, kiss you again … Would you run away? Again? Jesus Christ. That was a bit better then what he had said before, but still.

just talk yourself up A N D T E A R Y O U R S E L F D O W N - - - - - - - - - - - -Wasn’t it amazing, just how more simple things were when you were younger? As you got older everything changed. No matter what it was, it all changed. Things just could never stay the way they were, and that especially meant good things. Bad things, on the other hand…well, those were definitely another story. That was just how life happened to work out most of the time. Life wasn’t fair. Everyone knew that. Things never worked out the way you wanted them to, no matter what you were talking about. Zoe Carolyn Van Wright was most definitely not an exception to this rule of things always changing. Well, the only thing that didn’t seem to change about her was her height, but that wasn’t a matter of importance right now. It just amazed her how simple things were back then! When your biggest worry, at least when you were Zoe, was, again, how to freak out your teacher and other simple things like that. Now it had gone to passing hard classes and tests, not getting caught drinking, and mostly, the entire subject of Jamie. He had made such an impact on her life over the years, and now she was looking at him in a different way. Things with him surely had gotten more complicated, that much was positive. Jamie had definitely not been an exception of the changing rule in Zoe’s non-exception life. Sometimes she wondered vaguely, when she was wondering vaguely about things, whether there was anyone in this world who was lucky enough to have things stay the same for him or her. Ah so there probably were. There most definitely were, actually. There were always those prissy rich stuck-up girls that had everything come easily to them. God, did they annoy the hell out of Zoe. Not that that was hard to do, but still. She really couldn’t stand them.
Okay, so Zoe couldn’t stand a lot of people. No matter how many times she said that, it really never got old to her. There were teachers, preppy kids, hell, even old people! Well, only some of them. Because as we’ve already learned, Zoe helps out in a nursing home every week, even if it’s only for a little while. But Zoe never really liked any people that confronted her about anything, or annoyed her in any way. Whether it was intentional or not didn’t really matter to her, because if it annoyed or irritated her, she wanted nothing to do with it. After learning so much about Zoe’s personality it might amaze you that she even has any friends at all. But believe it or not, this girl can be nice when she wants to. She just doesn’t want to a lot of the time. That or when she’s in a good mood, it’s easily ruined when something annoys her, like we’ve discussed. But either way, she really did have friends. And no, they weren’t all as easily irritated as she was, bothered all the time by little things. They just knew how to handle her, and how to amuse her. Zoe got along perfectly fine with her friends. Well okay, hopefully she would, because otherwise they wouldn’t be very good friends, would they? It only made sense. She and her friends were very close, actually. They had tons of fun getting into trouble and doing all sorts of, well, random things. But random things were fun, right? To Zoe they were. She had done a lot of random things in her past, and had continued to up to this point, including the prank that she and her friend were going to pull of tonight… Come to think of it, whatever happened to that? It was going to be the only reason Zoe would come to one of these things! At least until Josh asked her, but he was pretty much out of the story now. She wondered vaguely now (again) where Hayley was. She’d never seen her tonight, but now wasn’t exactly a great time to start looking for her. She was a little wrapped up right now.
Maybe a little more than wrapped up, you could say. Zoe was dancing with one of the best guys at Carson High. Well okay, maybe not the best, but best for her. Yep, her mind had changed even more. Even though Zoe knew that she and Jamie would still fight — that was one thing that wouldn’t change, meaning she’d finally found something that didn’t! — but that was just normal. She couldn’t imagine the two of them ever not fighting. There would never be a day, she knew, or at least figured, where Zoe would see Jamie and the two wouldn’t argue at least the smallest bit. Okay, well maybe now that things were starting to change between them yet again, they wouldn’t argue every day. They still definitely would, though. That part there was just inevitable. But no matter what would stay the same, the relationship that Zoe and Jamie had would most definitely change after tonight. Who knew exactly what that meant. Maybe they would start dating, maybe they would kiss again, maybe…oh boy. What if they did kiss? It was quite probable, after all. I mean, they were already dancing and had admitted their true feelings for each other. Zoe was just slightly worried that she would run away again. There was really no need for her to anymore, because of all she’d said, but you never knew with this girl, that was for sure. No, she definitely wouldn’t. Would she? No! She wouldn’t! Because she liked — no, loved — ah whatever. She liked Jamie, and there was no way she could do that again. So really, it was time for her to stop arguing with herself about it and just suck it up. It seemed like Jamie was reading her mind, for at that moment he…he asked her if she would kiss him. Oh my God. This seemed too good to be true. Zoe looked up at him with a shy smile. Jamie. She started to talk again. I’ve admitted so much to you tonight it’s unbelievable. And you still have to ask that? She smirked a bit before she stopped moving along with him, stood up on her tiptoes, and leaned in to kiss him again. God, there was just something about this kid. NOTES: you can definitely take her. WHEN YOU WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR IT WAS CLEAR TO ME YOU'RE THE ONE THEY ADORE, WHO THEY CAME TO SEE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
quite soon after jamie finished speaking - or mumbling, depending on if you were paying close attention to the conversation or not - he realised that he should've asked himself that same question. even though at the mall he didn't run away, he didn't feel half as nervous and excited as he did now. maybe he still had adrenaline from the whole screaming match and the punch and he was just on another one of those highs and eventually he'd just be brought down and be like 'oh, cool.' and be all dickish again. at least now he was being nice, right? maybe he should yell and punch and kick and scream more often. then he'd be a nice guy, but not by the people he beat up on. maybe he'd just find one person and kick the shit out of them. but what if they move or just like, die? silly jamie, you just find a different person. but then couldn't you go to jail for that? i think you could. and jamie was not in the mood or condition to be heading off to the slammer, thank you very much. most of the kids there were like, a zillion pounds! that would be like throwing a rock at piece of paper, the paper being jamie. ouch. if jamie's face wasn't stuck in this love-struck smile he'd probably be wincing right about now. getting beat up by big guys was not relevant to his interests.
among the many things going on in jamie's mind, most of them were good for the first time in a long time. not that jamie ever though of good things, because he did. he remembered a while back when their school had this drinking and driving presentation and the presenter was all 'every morning when i wake up, the first thing i do is say three positive things about my life and who i am as a person, and then i make three positive plans for the day and i get up and do them with a smile on my face.' well, at the time jamie thought that was stupid and decided to take a nap, even though the chair he sat on wasn't comfortable for that task. he had resorted to putting his head on torben's shoulder (who was fascinated with the presentation) and sleep. it was a good thing that jamie doesn't snore, or you'd probably be able to tell her was sleeping. the way he had his head on his cousin's shoulder looked like maybe he was crying, except his shoulders weren't shaking and jamie generally didn't cry in front of people. anyway, he thought that maybe that was a good idea, and if he tried doing that he'd turn into a better person. maybe he could write it in his journal every morning ...
oh, jamie! you've been dancing with zoe and being civil for no more than a few minutes, and you're already starting to think about changing your life and everything in it! no! what the hell happened to your independance? you two weren't even technically together yet. plus, you weren't even concious in the mornings unless you were waiting at the hospital for a ride home from your mother and fell asleep in the lobby. then you got woken up from dr cudi, and you'd walk home and be angry and grumbly for the rest of the day. why the hell would he want to change that? besides, walking home and being grumbly meant walking halfway across the city, and that meant stopping by a store and getting coffee or something. ooh, coffee. the thought made jamie seem a little thirsty, and a little more awake than he had been previously. maybe after this he'd go get coffee. when zoe looked up at him with a shy smile, his stomach seemed to do flip-flops again. what was it about her that was just so ... enchanting? maybe it was that he was starting to realise that maybe she was just playing hard-to-get all along. but jamie wasn't even sure of his own feelings towards her until like, a few weeks ago! and the on-going feud between zoe and jamie had been going on for more than a few weeks. try zillions of weeks. and it would continue on, except perhaps on a lower level. his mind was snapped back from the past and into the now when she said his name again. he was used to her screaming it at him, and then throwing something in his direction and depending on his level of awareness or what that object happened to be, sometimes it would hit him. and that just made him even more annoyed and angry with her. with the rest of her words, jamie shrugged. he supposed he was just being cautious, because he didn't want to look retarded in front of a very large group of people, even if people weren't looking in their direction anymore.
jamie felt zoe stop moving, and he gave her a shy smile and saw her standing on his tippy toes. aww, she was so cute. he decided that he'd make life a bit easier for zoe (he never thought he'd say that) and put his head down a little bit more so she didn't fall over. plus, when was jamie going to give up an opportunity to kiss now? never. ever ever ever. he supposed that if his life was made into a movie, this would be that time that the camera would be all circling around him and zoe and everything would be going in slow motion and there would be some serenading song or something playing in the background. not that that was a bad thing, but he realised that this had worked out just like a movie. hopefully this all had a fairytale ending. but of course, in a fairytale he would have wavy blonde hair, a british accent, and he'd always be riding a horse. he did or had none of those things. the moment that their lips touched for a second time, sparks ran through jamie's entire body starting from his lips, then quickly all the way down to his feet and back up again. it was sort of like the first time, except this time it had little fighting at the beginning and she had actually wanted to kiss him. and it felt like she was going to stay. fairytale kiss, check.
