mina was bored. it was as simple as that. it was five in the afternoon and she was utterly bored. not only was she bored, but she was angry at the fact that she was so bored. after all, she was mina winston, a.k.a the most popular girl in school. at least in her head she was though the majority of the school thought the same. easy to say, it was great that her parents has alot of money and power over the school board. but that was besides the point, right now she had to find someone to hang out with before she died of boredom. it shouldn't have been too hard, then again it was a weekday and there were people who actually needed to study for their classes. not mina though, that's what study hall was for. she racked her mind for any ideas on who she could call until the most obviously one popped into her head. colby
she thought, with a devilish glint in her eye. now i bet you're wondering who colby is, right? well he's the boy that you see walking down the hall and wouldn't even think twice about looking at. mot people thought of his as an "emo" person but honestly mina hated that term. she preferred the terms rich and poor, and boy did colby fall into the good one. but that wasn't the reason that mina talking to him as hard as it may be to believe. okay, so now you must be pretty confused so let me start at the beginning. colby was mina's boyfriend. yes, you read write, her boyfriend as hard as it may be to believe. the couple had been together for four years--on and off-- and they were crazy about each other, or so anyone who saw them would believe. truth be told, mina believed that he loved her more than she loved him.... if she loved him. she was never certain which was why they broke up so many times. mina had always been the one confused about her feelings and they stopped dating only to return to each other after a couple of weeks. now, usually mina didn't believe in going back to someone but she just couldn't help it with colby even if they had hurt each other a million and one times. now colby and mina weren't the ideal couple. i mean she was at the top of the social pyramid while he lingered close to the bottom though his wealth boosted him up. either way, he was the type of guy that mina's type usually frowned upon but for some reason the young girl had fallen for him. she had met him her eighth grade years and since then their relationship had literally been a roller-coaster ride. they had been off this year but after what happened with the shooting, mina just needed someone to talk to and obviously she chose colby. which was why the couple was back together. which brings me back to this point in time. mina grabbed her phone off the nightstand and sent colby a text. meet me at the mall in thirty minutes. mina didn't even bother waiting for a reply, she knew that colby would be there, he always was. mina then placed her phone in her pocket and headed straight for her bathroom. her hair--which had been in curls this morning-- had turned into a frizzy mess so mina ran her comb through it several times before placing a headband on top to keep it in place. she re-coated her makeup and brushed her hair one last time before exiting the bathroom. mina just grabbed her purse and keys before leaving the house without even telling her mother where she was going. it wasn't like she would care considering the fact that mina's father and her were still discussing the girls' living arrangements. it infuriated mina to have them fight for something that could be solved easily, after all they could just let the girls decide and be done with it. but as usual, they had to try to beat the other like the selfish pricks they were. easy to say, mina couldn't wait to graduate next year and leave. mina climbed into her car and turned on the engine before exiting the driveway and heading straight for the mall. a quick glance at the clock told her that she still had ten minutes but she knew it would take a while to find a parking spot. mina made a turn and searched for the nearest spot which just so happened to be close to the entrance. "guess it's my lucky day"mina said to herself before taking the spot. she got out of the car and headed inside only to realize that she hadn't told colby where to meet her. mina didn't worry about it though, she already knew the first place he would check.... the smoothie stand near the center of the mall. a smile crossed her lips as she remembered the first time they had come to the mall. the couple had ended up getting split apart by a large crowd and their first instinct had been to go to the smoothie stand. so you could say that was their place. mushy, i know, but mina couldn't help it, colby and her had many good times together. which is why mina felt a little guilty that she had been having a wandering eye lately. but she decided not to worry about that now. mina walked to the smoothie stand only to see that... colby was not there yet. a frown set upon her lips but she decided not to get too mad, after all she did tell him kind of last minute. then again she always did that yet he always managed to get there on time. seeing as she had nothing better to do, mina ordered a smoothie and sat down while she waited for both her smoothie and her boyfriend to arrive. ...It's Not Perfection But We've Come So Far... ...Tell.me.now,.Tell.me.you.believe.again...To his own ears the sigh that had just escaped his lips was much louder then it really was. In reality it had been rather quiet and probably would have gone unnoticed by anyone else in the room- if there had been anyone else in the room that is- but when Colby was in this state of mind he noticed every little sound. Somehow his brain managed to block out the big sounds, like the loud music playing in the room and the other teenagers on campus yelling back and forth, but every little sound was quickly picked up. It probably had something to do with his anxiety issues. The loud sounds were constant and always there, if he blocked them out there was just silence. However, the small sounds only jumped in here and there, usually without warning. They therefore broke the otherwise "silence" and quickly made him feel more alert and on edge. His ears always listened carefully for them as he worked on his poetry, read a book, or worked on homework so that no one and/or thing could sneak up behind him. Paranoid? Yah, maybe just a little. But in his opinion it was always better to be prepared just in case.
With this little fact about him in mind it should make sense that when his cell phone buzzed Colby jumped a good foot or so out of his chair. That stupid electronic device scared him just about every time it went off. You would think he would have learned by now but oh-no, not Colby. After managing to take a few deep breaths and wait for his heart beat to slow he reached for the phone, flipped it open and glanced at the screen. Mina. But really, who else would it have been? Sure, a few of his friends would send him a text from time to time to remind him to bring something to class or ask him to come pick them up since they were in no state to drive, but only Mina would text him in the middle of the evening. A small smile crossed his lips as he read the text. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing that he still got all excited whenever Mina wanted to see him. Yes, she was his girlfriend and you should be excited to see the person you're dating but still... their relationship wasn't exactly the healthiest one and after all the times he had been hurt by her you would think he would have learn to stop hanging on her every word and just learn to live a bit without her. But alas, once again this was something that Colby had not learned and right now he didn't really care or want to think about it. He had a beautiful girl to go meet up with. i'll try to be there asap <3 He sent the text and smiled slightly before closing his phone and setting it down on the desk beside him again. "Just need to finish this poem first..." She could wait a few more minutes; He didn't want to lose his train of though.
-----
Colby bit his lip as he neared the smoothie stand. He wondered just how late he actually was and just how angry she was going to be with him. He hadn't meant to take so long but his muse had gotten the best of him and he just hadn't been able to stop writing. Whenever he thought he was done the poem another idea would come up and send him on a whole 'nother tangent. By the time he had finally put down his pen and looked at the time he only had ten minutes to get ready and get to the mall. Now he was finally here but he could see that Mina was already waiting. Hell, he hated making her wait. Like a dog that had run away and then realized he had no where else to go but home, Colby slowly made his way to the table that she was sitting at and sat down. "Hey," he greeted quietly, his eyebrows lifting in a soft puppy-dog expression, "I'm sorry to keep you waiting. I kinda got caught up with some stuff..." There. She would either accept his apology or make a big deal out of all of this. There wasn't much else he could do but hope she was in a happy enough mood with him right now. He waited for a moment before leaning over the table and gently kissing the corner of her mouth. "You gotta at least give me credit for knowing where to meet you without asking," he tried cautiously, mumbling against her skin softly before kissing her again.

mina glanced at her watch one more only to see that colby was already five minutes late. this slightly annoyed her, then again she had been in a bad mood with him lately. not that it was strange for her to feel like that seeing as that was the first sign that she wanted to leave him. but mina just couldn't bring herself to do it, at least not this time. there was something holding her back--her feelings for him. see, mina wasn't as bad as she seemed. sure, there were times when she treated her friends and colby like shit but she had her sweet moments. hell, when colby and her began dating she was the sweetest person in the world, or at least she was sweet to colby. then she entered high school and her personality took a turn for the worse. she let the power her parents had go to her head and she basically became a tyrant. yet colby stayed by mina's side, even when she tried pushing him away on various occasions. maybe that was why mina was so infatuated with him. i mean, they didn't have that much in common, more like almost nothing at all, and he didn't fit in with her lifestyle. after all, she hung around with the popular kids while colby stayed with the lower status kids who could care less about what mina and her friends thought about them. it actually pissed mina off but there wasn't much she could do about it, colby might do anything for her but she was sure that he wouldn't just ditch his friends for her... well actually he might. mina didn't dare try though, she didn't want to risk losing the only boy that loved her. if only she loved him the same way.
anyways, back to the matter at hand. mina was still waiting on her boyfriend. her annoyance was slowly turning into frustration even if he was only seven minutes late. obviously mina was not a patient person. she concentrated on the sounds around her, only getting up when they called her to get her strawberry banana smoothie. yes, she was weird for liking such an odd combination but they were delicious and this was the only place where they had them. she looked at her phone only to see that she had received a text nearly twenty minute ago from colby. even if he was late, it made her happy to know that she wasn't going to be stood up. not like the boy would even dare try that, not unless he wanted to be verbally abused then ignored for the next week. and trust me when i say, you do not want to be ignored by the ice queen. she took a sip of her smoothie only to nearly choke when she heard a voice. mina looked up and saw that colby had finally arrived. she raised her eyebrows, taking a moment to consider his excuse. whatever
mina though but she didn't voice it out loud. she would rather not get into a bad mood at that moment but she did let herself roll her eyes. colby should at least know that she was slightly annoyed by his horrendous punctuality. still she couldn't help but melt when she felt his lips at the side of her mouth. she was tempted to deepen the kiss but decided against it in an instant only letting a smile cross her lipstick colored lips. "i should give you credit for that.... but i don't believe i will" mina said in a mocking tine which he should take as a good sign. after all, would he rather the junior be upset with him for being so late. but mina couldn't stay mad at him when he was being so sweet with her.... at least she couldn't be mean right now because if she was then her entire day would have gone down the drain. mina took a look at colby and wondered how it was that she had become so infatuated with him. i mean, she wasn't sure if she truly loved him because the feeling came and went but she was sure that she loved being with him.... at least she did sometimes. mina was just confusing when it came to relationships and since colby had practically been her first everything it was easy to say that it was hard to let go. sure, he wasn't her first boyfriend but he was the boy that she first held hands with, first told her secrets too, and who gave mina her first kiss. she was just a silly naive girl and he was the boy who gave her everything. now it was different. mina knew who she was and she wasn't sure if colby even belonged in her life anymore. but she stopped her thoughts about that considering the fact that she was sure colby would notice there was something wrong with her. "so what stuff kept you from being here on time" mina asked. ...It's Not Perfection But We've Come So Far... ...Tell.me.now,.Tell.me.you.believe.again..."Hmm..." his voice came out softly as he leaned back in his chair again, "can't blame a guy for at least trying," he pointed out, slightly shrugging his shoulders. He could tell she was just joking around a little and it was already making him feel a bit more relaxed. He usually felt extremely uptight around Mina, especially if she was with her friends. He used to be more at ease with her, back when they had first started going out, but a lot of things had changed since then. He could tell that she had changed. She acted differently, seemed to judge people's worth according to the money they had, and hung out with people that he found very intimidating and well, immature. Sometimes the question Why are you still with her? was brought up and really, he wasn't sure what the answer was anymore. He was kind of still waiting for the answer to just magically appear and just make sense, continuously telling himself that things could only get better, while they continued to get gradually worse. It was starting to get old and yet he'd rather bite his tongue then try to bring it up and talk about it. Talking to Mina about real things might as well be impossible. Then again, Colby found talking about real things to just about anybody basically impossible. Every once and awhile if he had a few drinks in him or it was late at night you could get something real out of him, but for the most part he was just like all of those popular kids... fake.
The realization that he was just like the rest of them had hit him hard not too long ago. Sure, he didn't put others down just to try to be cool and fit in, but he did do a few other things. For example, he rarely spoke his mind. He let people make decisions for him and would just go along with them rather then doing what he really wanted to. No, he had never given into peer pressure to the point of making fun of somebody or dressing how people told him to, but there had been plenty of times where he'd go to a party just because it was expected of him when really he'd rather stay home and just be by himself. By now he had lost his own personal identity and become just another boy in the crowd. People didn't see him and think hey, that's Colby, it was more of hey, it's one of those kids. That's all he was now, just "one of those kids" and hell, did he ever hate it. Another thing he hated was the fact that he had just allowed himself to get so lost in his angry thoughts that he had no idea what Mina had just asked him. He stared at her for a moment, blinking slowly before standing up. "One sec, I think I'm going to go get one of those smoothies..." he explained, lightly rubbing her back as her walked past her to go place an order.
As he stood in the short line he gave himself a quick pep talk. First of all, what had gotten into him? He was usually so good at keeping his guard up and focusing on the task at hand instead of letting his thoughts take control. His time for thinking was usually only when he was alone so that he wouldn't leave himself vulnerable like he just had. Maybe he had to go to the doctor and get some sleeping pills... being up all night really wasn't helping him during the day. He was finding that lately he couldn't help but to get lost in his own head, even when he was with people. That wasn't a good thing. Secondly, some things were really going to have to change. He couldn't just- his thoughts stopped short as the man behind the counter asked him what kind of smoothie he wanted. "Uh, strawberry banana," he ordered without much of a second thought. He had never really liked bananas or banana flavouring, but it wasn't like he couldn't stand it. Ever since he had found out Mina liked strawberry banana it was just what he started ordering. He usually didn't need a whole smoothie since he had never had much of an appetite, so this way he could always share it with her since it was what she liked. Hell, after awhile he learned to just ignore the funny flavour of the drink. It was another one of those things that he had learned to just tone out and ignore to make life easier, like what he did with loud noises or the strong urge to violently make love to someone. Yah... he was a little weird and had a lot of built up anger and violence inside but oh well, he was good at controlling it for the most part.
After paying and getting his smoothie he walked back to where Mina was, taking a small sip of the drink. "So," he started as he walked up behind her and placed his cup on the table, putting his hands on her shoulders and beginning to gently massage them. "Do you have any plans for the day or specific stores that you want to go to or is this just some random hang out thing with no particular plans?" he asked. He stopped massaging her and feather lightly ran his finger tips down her neck, waiting for an answer.

mina's mean attitude was one of the things that she hated about herself. but being little miss sunshine was not going to get her any place, at least not in high school. still, she felt bad when she acted mean towards colby when all he was trying to do was be a good boyfriend. she truly was the devil personified. a huff of frustration escaped her lips when he just gave up, mina was hoping for a little more but she never got that with colby. then again, she never actually told him what she wanted, she just got mad and expected him to read her mind and instantly figure out what he did wrong. basically, the girl was complicated when it came to all this relationship, there were so many rules and things to consider. for once, mina still remained old-fashioned and believe that guys should do everything for the girl. sure, before the guys ruled but that was one exception when it came to the old-fashioned dating rule. mina always had to be the boss and if she couldn't be, then the relationship would not work. then again, mina and colby's relationship never worked... well sometimes it did, then other times it didn't. "true.... i just wish the guy had tried a little harder" mina said, whispering the last part so that colby would not hear. she did not need him getting upset over something that she said, not right now. this was supposed to be a happy meeting, one which mina was set on not ruining. yeah, she at least owned up to her mistake and admitted that she messed up each and every relationship that colby and her ever had but mostly for valid reasons, at least valid reasons for mina.
okay, so some of those reasons included some of her "best" friends butting into their relationship, but mina HAD to listen to their opinion. if she didn't, they would turn on her and she would truly have nothing. she knew that if you loved someone then you wouldn't care what other people thought but this was high school and everyone knew that it was what others thought that truly mattered. hell, mina broke up alot of her friend's relationships because of the guy/girl they were dating. everyone knew that if the person was not good enough, then there was no point in even dating them. so why was mina allowed to date colby for so long? simple, he had more financial status that most of the kids at carson and he could easily pay his way into any ivy league school, and in a place like carson that was all that mattered. so maybe that was half of the reason why mina was still with him, the other half being (or more than half for that matter) that she was emotionally attached to the older boy. no matter who else they dated when they broke up, they always seemed to return to each other. it would be kind of romantic if it weren't for the fact that it had grown old. it was almost like a routine now, which was why mina was trying hard to make it work this time. colby was a senior, which meant this would be their last year together unless of course he failed which he wouldn't, at least mina wouldn't let him. her faze remained locked with his for a moment before he excused himself. her brows furrowed when she realized that he had not answered her question but she didn't say anything about it.
it seemed like she would continue biting her tongue the entire day. she shivered at his touch, a feeling that she enjoyed and missed. "get me a cookie and i'll love you forever" mina called behind her. she was sure that colby had heard her, heck pretty much everyone within a twenty foot radius probably heard her. forever mina thought, referring to what she had said mere moments ago. there was a time when she could imagine remained with colby for the rest of her life. there was a time when he was a part of her life plan but one day that just changed, the day she had first broken up with him was what did it. she remembered it clearly because it was during the summer before they were going to enter high school and she had felt the pressures that came with wanting to be the "queen bee." she had the advantage of knowing older students already but mina had still been stressed. then she thought about whether colby could fit in her plan or no and sadly, he didn't. so she broke up with him and then mere months into their freshman year, she went out with him once more and that was when their on/off relationship basically began. she was snapped out of her train of thought when she heard colby's voice again but it wasn't directed towards her, it was actually directed towards the cashier. a smile crossed her lips when she heard his order. she was the one that made him try strawberry banana smoothies and it was the very thing that mina ordered for him every time that they came here, except for today for some reason. she wasn't even sure if he truly liked them or not, he might have said he did but colby said alot of things to make her happy.
mina was so consumed with her thoughts once more that she almost dropped her smoothie when she felt colby's hands on her shoulders. for someone who was supposedly not compatible with her, colby was able to make her melt with just a single touch. "well i had some plans..." mina hinted coyly. yes, the girl was pretty much a tease but she enjoyed every moment of it. "but i was thinking we could walk around for a while" she added, as she got up, smoothie in hand. her other hand moved towards colby's free hand, lacing mina's delicate fingers with colby's.
