clouds can move and skies will be wide open
foward, backward, foward, backward skylar repeated in her head. she was currently outside her family home with her younger sibling jake and her new baby sister melanie. the younger beaufort children were assigned the task of taking care of the new baby while their parents went to visit celeste in the hospital. skylar didn't mind though, it pained her to see her eldest sister in that hospital bed without the ability to even move a muscle. plus, the hospital smell sickened skylar to the point where she could no longer go to the hospital without throwing up. yes, the effect that hospitals had on skylar were perfectly atrocious but there was nothing she could do about it except stay at home with her siblings. although she fought with them like crazy, skylar actually enjoyed this time with them. over the course of these past months, she had gotten much closer to her brother jake and had put jealousy past her and gotten used to melanie. hell, she loved that baby like crazy. after all, they had spent quite a large amount of quality time together seeing as her parents were visiting celeste daily. see, just three weeks ago, a nurse thought she saw celeste move a bit and well that threw everyone in quite a frenzy. she remembered seeing her parents cry because they were so happy that their girl had responded, then they cried because she had yet to make any other movements. but they did not give up hope and they remained at her side, only leaving to give the kids food or when they had to work which was mostly directed towards skylar's dad since he was the one who had the job in the family. anyways, the younger beauforts were almost always alone but they had learned to fend for themselves by now. plus, if they ever needed anything they still had sarina... kind of.
sarina was just a completely different story. skylar and her had never been super close but they did have a closer relationship before the accident and the whole oliver situation happened. everything had put a strain on their relationship but seeing as nothing had ever happened with oliver who left god-knows-where, skylar didn't feel as guilty. yet there was that tugging feeling that told her that she should have told sarina what happened at the dance. it might not have been important since she was no longer with the boy but at that time she had been and sarina had a right to know that for a second there had been a moment between oliver and skylar. who knows, maybe it was skylar's fault that they had broken up and if that was it then she knew she needed to try anything to get on her sister's good side. anyways, that was completely off topic. sarina had been distant from the entire family lately and it made everyone curious, most of all skylar who was more curious than that pesky cat that was killed by mere curiosity. she had tried speaking to sarina on several occasions but she was always busy or just too tired to talk to the young girl. sure, there were times when she was just in her room chilling but skylar was always afraid to go up there. she looked up at the window of her sister's bedroom which was wide open seeing as sarina was not home at the moment. no, she wasn't at the hospital either, she was..... actually she was god knows where. as i said before, skylar didn't talk to her sister much. it seemed like celeste was the one that bought all of them together. but skylar did not want to think about that at the moment especially since she was still on the swing and was going much too fast for her own good.
"i'm going to jump" skylar said without even taking a look at the ground. she knew she was going extremely fast and high. hell, if she stretched out her arm she would probably be able to reach the branches of the oak tree in their backyard. but skylar didn't care, she was an expert and this. she times it just right and suddenly she pushed herself off the swing and soared in the air for a moment. it wasn't long though before she came tumbling down onto the ground. her fall was fast and painful yet young skylar let a bunch of giggles escape her lips. she glanced at jake who had a grimace on his face and then at melanie who had her eyes fixated on something above skylar. seeing as she landed face down, skylar had to turn her head from jakes direction and look up only to see sarina looming over her.
