One thing Quinn Peters loved about being a senior in high school was the lack of school that actually had to be completed. Today, Quinn only had to be in school for the first five periods, and then they set her free. And, to top it all off, her mother had agreed to watch Patrick for a bit so she could get some much needed relaxation before she had to return to the hectic life of single motherhood. It wasn't that Quinn did not love taking care of her son, it was just that one year olds could be a bit of a hasle, especially boys.
It was beyond a good thing that Quinn's family home was right down the street from the beach. The beach was one of Quinn's favorite places. Whether it be to just go for a swim, to tan, or to play in the sand with Patrick, she always had a good time at the beach. As the beach neared in view, a smile formed across Quinn's thin lips. She always felt at home on the beach, and she was glad there were only few people along the shoreline.
The moment before Quinn's feet touched the sand, she removed her flipflops, and took another step. She mushed her toes into the warm sand and let the feeling take over her entire body. The sand got into all the tiny crevaces in her toes, and stuck to her immediately. Quinn threw her shoes into her tote bag, and continued walking until she found a place in the sand that was close enough to the water, without the possibilty of any of her stuff getting wet. Quinn debated whether or not she wanted to actually go into the water or not, but she figured she might as well get her feet a little wet. She took her dress bathing suit coverup off, and placed that in her bag as well. It was nice to feel the cool ocean air agaisnt her warm skin on this sunny day.
Quinn placed her bag down in the sand and walked towards the shore line. To her left, she saw a mom and dad playing in the water with their little girl. The girl had to be around six or seven, and she seemed to be having a ton of fun just being with her parents. The sight made Quinn think of Remington and Patrick. She fingered the necklace she always wore, the symbol of mother and child. Remington had given it to her the day Patrick was born. Not once in the past year had it been removed from her neck, and she planned on keeping it that way. The thought of Remington made Quinn's eyes start to sting. She glanced down at her ring finger and eyed the diamond. Everything had been so perfect until that idiot killed her one true love. She lost everything in that shooting, and if it wasn't for Patrick, Quinn had no idea what she would have done with herself.
Shaking her head, Quinn turned her attention to the waves crashing alone the shore in front of her. If nothing else, the water would take her mind off of things for a little bit. Without any hesitation, Quinn wadded up to her knees in the sparkling blue ocean. She ran her hands through the waves and it seemed as though all her worries swam away. Sometimes she wished she could just stay there forever, letting the wet sand sink her toes, and feelings the waves move through her lower body. It was a serene, beautiful feeling, and she never wanted it to go away.
